Bayern Munich have confirmed that Manuel Neuer will be out of action for the time being after suffering a partial tendon tear in his right foot during Saturday’s 2-1 Bundesliga victory over Mainz, with BILD reporting the injury could sideline him for up to two months.

Neuer was involved as Bayern secured all three points against Mainz, but the injury will now see the experienced goalkeeper sidelined for an extended period.

The 40-year-old’s absence represents an unwanted setback for Vincent Kompany’s side, who will now have to make alternative arrangements between the posts while their captain recovers.

Bayern themselves have not yet provided a timeframe for Neuer’s return, leaving his availability for the club’s upcoming fixtures uncertain.

The Munich club concluded their announcement by wishing their captain a speedy recovery, with Neuer now beginning his rehabilitation process.
