Nick Woltemade and Mika Baur capped their national team nominations with goals in Europa League action on Thursday. Earlier today, both players were named in Jürgen Klopp’s squad for the last two games of the upcoming international break.

Woltemade scored from the penalty spot as Juventus thrashed NEC Nijmegen 5-0 to start their European campaign. The Newcastle United loanee will now hope to make his full Serie A debut when the former giants host Atalanta on Sunday.

Former Bundesliga players Nico Gonzalez, Kerim Alajbegovic and Randal Kolo Muani were all in the scoresheet, while ex-Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kamil Grabara and Weston McKennie provided the assists for the first two goals. The Turin club sit top of the Europa League standings after the end of matchday 1 action on Thursday.

After a heavy derby defeat to Rangers over the weekend, Celtic suffered yet another blow in Europe with a 3-1 home defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

However, Mika Baur did score his first goal in a continental competition. The 22-year-old was also the match-winner when Celtic last took three points with a narrow victory at newly-promoted St. Johnstone.

The former Paderborn midfielder will hope to make his first Germany appearance when Klopp’s second squad face Serbia at home before a trip to Greece in matchday 4 of the UEFA Nations League.

Meanwhile, Marco Rose’s Bournemouth recorded an impressive 2-1 victory at Real Sociedad. Justin Kluivert, who had a spell at RB Leipzig like his German coach, scored Bournemouth’s historic first goal in European football.

Over in Türkiye, former Wolfsburg attacker Vaclav Cerny and Bayer Leverkusen loanee Ernest Poku helped Beşiktaş to a resounding 4-1 victory over Marseille with second-half goals.

Leverkusen are among those with three points after their 2-0 win over Celje on Wednesday, while Hoffenheim started with a defeat by the same scoreline at OFI Crete.
