Over the past few seasons, Mitchell Weiser has been a key player for Werder Bremen, operating as a right wing-back in front of a back-three system.

However, with Horst Steffen having replaced Ole Werner as head coach, a shift to a back four is now on the cards - and this could significantly change Weiser’s role.

“Mitch told me he can also play as a right-back,” Steffen explained.

“That could happen from time to time during the season, but fundamentally I see him further up the pitch because he’s more dangerous in front of goal there.”

With Weiser set to feature more as a winger rather than in defence, Werder are now in the market for a new right-back.

Felix Agu remains the only real alternative for the position at the moment, but his future with the club is uncertain.
