A little under a week ago, Maximilian Mittelstädt reacted to his surprise omission from the German national team on RTL/ntv.

However, DFB-Team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that a return isn't out of the question for the VfB Stuttgart full-back.

“The door isn't closed for Maxi. He knows that. He's not having a bad season either. He's had a bigger peak than the current one.

“Nevertheless, he's been very solid, with few ups and downs. Things could be different next time,” Nagelsmann said at his press conference.

Regarding the reaction of Mittelstädt, the 38-year-old coach sensed his discontent but made it clear that there was no ill feelings held.

“He was sad. That's normal and okay. We had a good conversation. Things are moving forward again," Nagelsmann explained.
