Martin Demichelis could hardly have wished for a better start to the Bundesliga season, as he led RB Leipzig to a 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in his first league game in charge on Saturday.

“I will never forget this day. The fans’ choreography, such a performance, three points, three goals – everything went really well. Compliments to the boys and to all the staff,” Demichelis said in a post-match interview, according to RBLive.de.

Ridle Baku’s first-half goal gave Leipzig a one-goal lead at the break, before Antonio Nusa and Rocco Reitz wrapped up a convincing victory in the second half.

“Except for the final 15 minutes, we consistently played forward and had the game under control. The first half was difficult; the opponent made it hard for us and, in certain phases, we lacked control without the ball,” Demichelis said.

“We created a lot of chances and scored the first goal. After that, we dominated the game and had better structure both in possession and without the ball.

“We came out aggressively in the second half and played forward. There were a lot of good things in our performance.”
