Edin Dzeko has been an instant hit at Schalke 04, scoring four goals and providing three assists in just six games for the 2. Bundesliga side since his winter move from AS Roma.
Turning 40 later this month, the Bosnian striker initially signed a short-term deal that expires at the end of the season.
Despite his age, Schalke’s management are reportedly open to offering Dzeko a one-year contract extension – provided he still feels fit and is willing to keep playing, according to Sport Bild.
In addition to his scoring record, the club are said to be impressed by how quickly he has adapted to Schalke's style, both on and off the pitch.
Dzeko himself has not ruled out continuing his career. In an interview with Sport Bild in February, he said:
“I’m not the type to say months in advance that I will stop playing. I don’t plan that far ahead. I will listen to my body in the summer, and right now I feel very good. I still have goals, even with the national team.”
