FC Köln CEO Alexander Wehrle has reacted to speculation linking Jorge Meré with a move to Mexico.

"There is inquiry", FC Köln CEO Alexander Wehrle confirmed to Kicker.

However, according to Kicker, the centre-back is neither in Mexico nor undergoing a medical.

Meré has been missing from training for days, with the club citing illness as the reason for his absence.

Köln sold Rafael Czichos to Chicago Fire last week, leaving the squad with just three centre-backs: Timo Hübers, Luca Kilian and Meré.

Accordingly, Köln are unlikely to let Meré go without bringing in a replacement.
