Matthäus hits back at Salihamidzic: "It's the truth!"

Germany's record cap holder, Lothar Matthäus, has responded to comments from Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidzic, who said he "couldn't care less" about his opinion.
Lothar Matthäus has hit back at Bayern München board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic.

Salihamidzic reacted angrily to Matthäus' criticism of Bayern's defense in the wake of last week's 4-2 defeat to Bochum, telling DAZN he "couldn't care less" what the former Bayern and Germany star says.

Matthäus has now responded to Salihamidzic's comments in an interview with Bild.

"It's my job as a journalist to evaluate the performances. Hasan, Julian Nagelsmann and Joshua Kimmich confirmed that Bayern were not good in Bochum, making open, critical statements," Matthäus said and added:

"Based on his strong reaction to my statements, you can see that it affects him. The criticism of the defense hurts him because Hasan knows it's the truth.

"With Hernández and Upamecano, price and performance simply do not go together, and Hernández could have messed up the wage structure in the team. The defense has a deficit in speed. It's especially noticeable with Davies being out. Hasan not only wants to protect the players, but also himself as he is in charge of the transfers. And I understand that."
