HSV hang onto Glatzel with new contract and hefty pay raise

Striker Robert Glatzel has put to rest all speculation about a potential transfer by extending his current contract with Hamburger SV.

Some additional speculation about a potential transfer to a top tier club for HSV striker Robert Glatzel came on Wednesday when the Hamburger Morgenpost published a piece claiming that the 28-year-old planned to depart Hamburg via an exit clause. Club and player both put such rumors to rest on Thursday with the announcement that Glatzel had signed a new deal with the HSV.

According to German tabloid Sport Bild, Glatzel gets a hefty pay raise with the new working paper. The 2. Bundesliga's second-best scorer receives a salary boost from €600,000 euros to €1.3 million euros per year, including bonuses. The details published by the "Boulevard Blatt" cannot be independently verified.

"I'm pleased to remain on board at HSV," Glatzel noted in a statement, "The club, the team and the fans have grown close to my heart. Every single one of my 41 games so far has been special. That's why I'm looking forward to everything that's coming up now. We all have common goals and want to achieve them. I want to do my part."
