Kicker Report: Grillitsch and Hoffenheim work out new long-term deal

Germany's preeminent footballing publication reports that TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's "prodigal son" Florian Grillitsch is poised to return to Kraichgau.

One year after departing on a free transfer, Austrian midfielder Florian Grillitsch is reportedly returning to Sinsheim on another free. Grillitsch's one-year contract with Ajax Amsterdam did contain an option to extend for another two years, but club and player decided against doing so. There have rumors that Grillitsch was in negotiations with his former club since the beginning of the month, though it initially seemed as if the two sides might have difficulty agreeing to terms.

Now Michael Pfeifer of Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that the 27-year-old and the TSG have worked it out. After a disappointing year in the Erdevisie, the Austrian international has agreed to a new three-year-deal that will surely see the player's pay cut significantly. In a long article appearing on Kicker's website, Pfeifer speculates that Grillitsch wishes to return to his old stomping grounds - which he didn't exactly depart amicably - in order to earn more playing time ahead of next summer's Euros and revitalize his career.
