Bayer 04 Leverkusen have announced the extension of Jeremie Frimpong's contract.

The 22-year-old Dutch wing-back has agreed a new long-term deal with the Bundesliga club until 2028.

Frimpong has been linked with a number of top clubs after emerging as a key player for Die Werkself following his move from Celtic in January 2021.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old has now decided to commit to Leverkusen for the long term, much to the delight of the club's managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes.

"Jeremie Frimpong has not just developed into an extremely popular figure in our squad over the past few years. At the moment, he is one of the best players in the Bundesliga in his position as an attacking right-back. The contract extension underlines Jeremie's importance to our Werkself," said Rolfes.

Frimpong pointed out that he has come a long way since making the switch to Germany from Celtic.

"A lot has happened since then, we've experienced great things and continually improved as a team. It's great fun to be part of this team."

The 22-year-old has made 103 appearances for Bayer 04, scoring 13 goals and providing 23 assists.
