Hoeness: Bayern nearly hired Klopp many years ago

Bayern München president Uli Hoeness reveals he wanted to hire Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp years ago.
Bayern München considered hiring Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp years ago, Uli Hoeness claims.

However, back in 2008, the Bayern München president ultimately decided to bring in Jürgen Klinsmann while Klopp joined Borussia Dortmund.

"Personally, I appreciate Jürgen Klopp very much. I had arranged a cooperation with him many years ago, but then we hired Jürgen Klinsmann. I have already expressed great respect for him and his work," Hoeness told Sport 1 before underlining that Bayern aren't currently considering replacing Niko Kovac with Klopp:

"We're not thinking about that right now. We are satisfied with our coach. We live in the here and now, and we should keep it that way."

Bayern will be up against Klopp's Liverpool team in the Champions League round of 16 with the first leg taking place next week - and Hoeness expects a tough clash.

"This will be a tough task for both sides, and I hope it will end happily for us," the Bayern boss said.
