Jean-Philippe Mateta has agreed a new deal with Mainz which keeps him at the club until 2023.

The French striker has been linked with a move away from Mainz recently, but has put the rumors to bed by signing a new contract with the carnival club.

"This is a clear statement when it comes to his future at Mainz 05. Jean-Philippe Mateta outlined his full potential in his first Bundesliga season and quickly became a highly-regarded Bundesliga player," said Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder, as quoted by the club.

"He still has further development potential, though, and we want to promote and profit by this together," he added.

Mainz paid €10 million to sign Mateta from Olympique Lyon last summer. The 21-year-old scored 14 goals in 34 appearances in his first Bundesliga season.
