Speaking in an interview with Goal, Kimmich said he has been impressed with the RB Leipzig's striker's goal haul this season.
"I'm very happy for Timo. He already scored 18 goals in the first half of the season. I don't mean this in a derogatory way, but it's a different challenge to score so many goals for Leipzig than for Bayern München," Kimmich said.
Werner took his goal tally to 20 in the league when he netted a brace against Union Berlin in Leipzig's 3-1 victory on Matchday 18.
Kimmich and Bayern are one point clear of Werner and RB Leipzig before Sunday's game in Munich.
