Union Berlin are on the verge of signing Robin Knoche, according to B.Z.

The centre-back is available on a free transfer after his contract with Wolfsburg expired at the end of the season.

Union Berlin are looking to strengthen their defence after parting ways with Keven Schlotterbeck, who returned to Freiburg at the end of his loan spell, and Michael Parensen, who has retired from football.

Knoche, 28, came through the youth ranks at Wolfsburg and has spent his entire career at Volkswagen Arena so far, making 226 appearances.
