Bayer Leverkusen chief Rudi Völler has played down reports that Kai Havertz is on the verge of joining Chelsea.

According to Sport Bild and The Guardian, Leverkusen are poised to accept an offer of €80 million plus €20 million in potential bonuses for the 21-year-old. But Völler denies that an agreement has been reached.

"This is nonsense," Völler told DPA on Monday when asked about the reports.

Völler has stated numerous times that Leverkusen don't want to lower their asking price, reported to be €100 million, despite the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sport Bild claimed last week that Havertz has agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with Chelsea worth €20 million per season and €100 million in total.
