FC Köln are apparently looking into the possibility of bringing former Schalke 04 midfielder Max Meyer back to Germany.

Meyer has fallen out of favor at Crystal Palace and hasn't made a single Premier League appearance for the London club this season.

According to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Köln are keeping tabs on the 25-year-old with the view of signing him at the end of the season, at which point his contract with Crystal Palace expires.

Meyer's salary expectations could be a potential stumbling block, however. The midfielder currently earns just under €10 million per season, and Köln will not be able to afford him unless he takes a significant pay cut.

'The Billy Goats' have also been linked with a move for Wolfsburg's Yannick Gerhardt, who is also out of contract at the end of the season.

The midfielder is said to be stalling on a new deal, but 'Die Wölfe' haven't given up hope of keeping him at the club.
