Back in February, it was announced that Dayot Upamecano will be leaving RB Leipzig to join Bayern München this summer.

In an interview with Sportbuzzer, the highly-rated centre-back has explained why he turned down other clubs to make the switch to Munich.

"There was also interest from other clubs, of course. But I relatively quickly knew that I wanted to stay in Germany and in the Bundesliga. I like it here, the level of the games, the fans, the stadiums," Upamecano told Sportbuzzer.

When the centre-back first heard that Bayern were interested in him, it made him "very proud."

"It doesn't get much bigger than that, especially if you're already playing for Leipzig."

Upamecano, 22, joined RB Leipzig from their Austrian sister club RB Salzburg in January 2017.
