The 24-year-old center-back is claimed to be "totally dissatisfied" at the Olympiastadion and wishes to leave the club before the August 31st deadline, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sport1.

Premier League side Newcastle United and the Serie A club Atalanta have engaged in talks with Torunarigha's representatives, but no direct communication has been made with Hertha BSC regarding a transfer.

Torunarigha has been part of Hertha BSC since 2006 when he joined the youth academy from Chemnitzer, making 18 senior appearances for the capital city club. The German has been capped at U16, U18, U19, U20, and U21 level, and recently represented Germany at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Torunarigha has two years remaining on his current deal but has played just six minutes of football this season under Pal Dardai.
