Borussia Dortmund sealed a second-place finish with a deserved 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday night. Although the night was all about the departures of sporting director Sebastian Kehl and three of their players, Niko Kovac also had some time to discuss the actual game.

“We saw a very good finish to this last home game with a nice and deserved victory,” said the Croat. “We were caught cold right at the beginning, but had the game under control after 15 minutes, and also scored the goals before half-time, which was of course very important. The second half was an open game from both teams.

“The way the team has acted, I liked it except for the first 15 minutes, and that's why I'm also happy that we finished the season in second place. You can be very happy with 70 points.”

Borussia Dortmund will end the season away at Werder Bremen as Friday’s captain, Julian Brandt, set to play his last game for the club against his hometown club. The Black and Yellows end a fifth successive season without a trophy.
