Official: Engels switches to Celtic

Arne Engels' move from Augsburg to Celtic has been officially confirmed.

FC Augsburg have officially sold Arne Engels to Scottish Premiership side Celtic FC.

The 20-year-old's transfer was confirmed by Celtic late on Friday.

“When I heard about Celtic's interest and the chance to play in the Champions League at such a young age, I knew I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity,” said Engels.

“I owe my development to FCA, who believed in me and my abilities when they signed me from Belgium and gave me a lot of game time over the last year and a half. I'm also incredibly grateful that FCA has now made this big step in my career possible with this transfer.”

Augsburg sporting director Marinko Jurendic commented:

"In our discussions with Arne Engels, we sensed how important the opportunity to play in the Champions League was for him. That was the basis for entering into the final talks with Celtic and creating a good basis for the transfer for all parties involved.

"We are of course delighted that Arne's move to the traditional Scottish club will enable another young player to take the next big step in his career by giving him the best possible support and plenty of playing time at FCA.

“We would like to thank Arne for his commitment and great moments at FCA and wish him all the best for the rest of his career.”

Engels featured 53 times for Augsburg in total.
