Bayer Leverkusen sporting managing director Simon Rolfes has responded to increasing speculation surrounding head coach Kasper Hjulmand.

A number of potential replacements for Hjulmand have been suggested in the media ahead of the summer, but Rolfes insists the plan is for the Dane to stay.

Asked if  Hjulmand will remain at the club, Rolfes told Sky:

“Yes. He has a contract until 2027. There is no other decision. Even if everything in the media seems clear, it isn’t. That’s the situation.”

After crashing out of the DFB-Pokal semi-final on Wednesday, losing 0-2 to Bayern Munich, Leverkusen can now fully focus on trying to secure a top-four finish, with the club currently sitting sixth.

“The most important thing are the next four Bundesliga matches. I am firmly convinced that we have the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League if we win those games," said Rolfes.

With four matches left this season, Die Werkself travel to Köln this Saturday.
