Waldemar Anton is questionable for Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga opener against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin has revealed that Anton and young left-back Almugera Kabar are both struggling with illness.

Giving a squad update at a press conference on Wednesday, Sahin told reporters:

“Waldemar Anton and Almugera Kabar are ill. Niklas Süle is still missing and Pascal Gross is suspended.”

Marcel Sabitzer should be in the squad after recovering from the injury that kept him out of Dortmund's last game of 2024.

"'Sabi' will resume training today," said Sahin, adding that the Austria international is "making a good impression".

Donyell Malen is also expected to be part of the squad, despite reports that Dortmund are in negotiations with Aston Villa for the Dutchman.

“'Donny' will be part of the squad and of course he is a candidate to start. The fact is that he's our player and he's also in contention for the game on Friday. I see him as very focused.”
