HSV solidified their attempts to negotiate with Premier League champions Arsenal for Fábio Vieira, but the two parties are still far apart in the valuation of the midfielder. According to Sky Sports, the North Londoners slapped an €18 million price tag on the player.

However, the fact that the Portuguese player will enter the last season of his contract could convince them to lower their asking price later in the window. The 26-year-old playmaker also wants to re-join the club he spent last season on loan.

BILD reported yesterday that Arsenal are ready to lower their demands, but €18 million would still be a big hurdle for the traditional club as their current bid is below €10 million.

HSV board member Erick Huwer commented on the deal as the club could need to break their record, which was set in 2016 with Filip Kostic’s €14 million transfer from VfB Stuttgart.

“We fell in love with Fábio a little bit last year, but we are not going to be unreasonable. If Arsenal say yes, we look forward to him. If they say no, we look forward to someone else.” said Huwer.
