Sunderland set to beat RB Leipzig to signing of Lyon's Fofana

Update (15:08 CEST): Crystal Palace are reportedly trying to hijack the deal and could beat Sunderland to Fofana’s signature.

RB Leipzig have recently been linked with a move for Olympique Lyon winger Malick Fofana, but it appears the Belgium international will not be joining Die Roten Bullen.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Sunderland have reached an agreement to sign the 21-year-old for a total fee of €30 million, including bonuses.

Fofana has now been given permission to travel to England to finalise the move, with the winger set to sign a contract until 2031 and Sunderland holding an option to extend it by a further 12 months.

RB Leipzig, meanwhile, confirmed the signing of Spanish striker Marc Guiu from Chelsea earlier on Tuesday.
