The long dormant story of 30-year-old former German youth international Mitchell Weiser's potential move to the Algerian national football team has suddenly sprung back to life. After no new news on the matter for nearly 18 months, Germany's home-based transfermarkt website reports that the SV Werder Bremen professional visited the country for talks at the beginning of the month and completed all requisite paperwork. A call up in November, per the website, should follow.

Since legendary Bosnian trainer Vladimir Petkovic took on the job of coaching the Fennecs in February, the search for multi-heritage players capable of helping the country's program has resumed. Weiser may be in a position to help Petkovic out with an acute need on the right-hand side of defense. At his club team, Weiser continues to defy all the odds. The former Köln academy man recently completed a successful transition to attack in Ole Werner's tactical system.

Transfermarkt also reports that Petkovic and the Algerian FA also have their eye on FC St. Pauli midfielder Carlo Boukhalfa. The 25-year-old Freiburg native has started three Bundesliga fixtures under St. Pauli trainer Alexander Blessin this season scoring his inaugural Bundesliga goal in a round three loss to Augsburg. Weiser maintains loose connections to the North African state with eligibility running through his maternal grandfather. Boukhalfa - who has never represented Germany at any level - is of full Algerian descent.
