Although Xabi Alonso has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026, there's a big question mark hanging over his future, with a move to former club Real Madrid a real possibility.

With that in mind, it makes sense for the German champions to look at possible alternatives for the successful coach.

VfB Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness, who is seen as the favorite, and Germany assistant coach Sandro Wagner have already been mentioned as candidates - and now Sport Bild are throwing two more names into the mix.

According to the report, Leverkusen board member for sport Simon Rolfes and head of development Keld Bordinggaard have been monitoring Fabian Hürzeler's progress for some time.

The 31-year-old left St. Pauli last summer to join Brighton & Hove Albion, who are currently sixth in the English Premier League.

Another candidate, according to the report, is former Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand, under whom Bordinggaard worked as an assistant at Mainz from the summer of 2014 until February 2015.

Hjulmand left his position as Denmark coach after the European Championship in Germany.
