UEFA Nations League: Ballon d’Or hopefuls Kane and Yamal score as Spain defeat England in Wembley thriller

Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal joined Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland in scoring on matchday 1 of the UEFA Nations League. FC Bayern's talisman added another goal to his collection before his penalty-kick miss helped Spain to a comeback victory in England.
Yamal opened the scoring for the World Cup champions before goals from his Barcelona teammate Anthony Gordon and England's captain Kane reversed the script before the half-time break.
Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham won a penalty early in the second-half, but Kane’s effort rattled the crossbar. The FC Bayern striker would've been ordered to retake the penalty had it gone in because he touched the ball twice.
Spain went on to score twice in the next 20 minutes through substitutes Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal. The Real Sociedad attacker also scored the winner when these two teams last met in the 2024 Euros final.
In the other game from the group, Croatia beat Czechia 2-1 away from home. SC Freiburg striker Igor Matanovic assisted Croatia's opening goal, which was scored by the 41-year-old former Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric.
