The Netherlands lead Group A2 in the UEFA Nations League ahead of November’s international break after their 2-1 victory over Serbia. Former FC Bayern striker Joshua Zirkzee scored the winner after entering as a substitute at the start of the second-half.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s Joey Veerman played an hour before Xavi Hernandez’s next triple change, which included the entrance of Ruben van Bommel, who once again made a difference with an assist for the goal by the Manchester United man.
Teun Koopmeiners put the hosts ahead in his first appearance of the international break at the half-hour mark. However, Serbia were level four minutes later with the 19-year-old striker Mihajlo Cvetkovic scoring his first international goal.
Zirkzee’s close-range finish put the Dutch top of Group A2 as Greece and Germany drew goalless in Thessaloniki. Serbia stayed bottom as they’re still waiting for their first point. The group stage of the UEFA Nations League will be completed in next month’s international break.
Meanwhile, Portugal maintained their perfect record in Group A4 with a comeback victory over Norway. Ex-Dortmund man Erling Haaland failed to score for the second game running as Joao Cancelo and Gonzalo Ramos helped the Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal to another victory.
HSV’s defender David Møller Wolfe and RB Leipzig star Antonio Nusa featured for the visitors. From the other game in the group, Joakim Mæhle, who stays in Wolfsburg after a relegation to 2. Bundesliga, helped Denmark to a narrow win over Wales in Cardiff.
Rasmus Hojlund scored his third goal of the competition as Denmark sit second in the group with six points. Wales and Norway are joint-bottom with three points after four matchdays.
