Undav demands apologies after Stuttgart claim second place: "I was right!"

After helping Stuttgart leapfrog Bayern Munich into second place, Deniz Undav looked back on comments he made in February and demanded apologies.

In arguably one of the most entertaining German football matches of the 2023/24 season, VfB Stuttgart were beaten 3-2 by Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal in February.

At the time, Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav made the bold claim, which he brought up again with glee on Saturday after the Swabians leapfrogged Bayern Munich into second place in the Bundesliga with a 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on the final day of the season.

"Three months ago, I said that the two best teams in Germany had played against each other," said Undav, looking back on his comments after the cup tie against Leverkusen in February.

"Everyone ridiculed me. But I think I was right, don't you? You can all apologize to me now," he said with a grin.

“Before the season, everyone expected Stuttgart to be in the relegation zone. And now we've finished second. We played excellent football and deserved it.”

Undav, 27, certainly played his part in Stuttgart's success, scoring 18 goals and assisting 10 in 30 Bundesliga appearances.

The Swabians will now do all they can to make his loan move from Brighton & Hove Albion permanent.
