Alexander Schwolow will leave Union Berlin this summer after deputizing for Frederik Rønnow for a couple of seasons. The 32-year-old made a controversial transfer from city rivals Hertha Berlin after the Old Lady’s relegation.

However, his expiring contract will not be extended beyond this season. Steffen Baumgart’s side now aim to replace the former Germany youth international with Energie Cottbus’ custodian Elias Bethke.

Berliner Kurier reports that Union Berlin target the 22-year-old to be their substitute goalkeeper next season. With promotion to 2. Bundesliga looks very unlikely, Cottbus will have a hard time keeping one of the best 3. Liga shot-stoppers.

However, Benjamin Heidlberger, who is the goalkeeper’s agent, told Lausitzer Rundschau that there is still no concrete offer from Union Berlin. Bethke extended his Cottbus contract until 2027 at the start of the season.
