Werder Bremen suffer injury blow as Musah out for rest of the year

Werder Bremen confirmed Salim Musah will be sidelined for months following his injury in Germany U20’s narrow win over France. The 1.98m-tall striker played in three of the four Bundesliga games after scoring in the season's curtain-raiser against Norderstedt in the DFB-Pokal.

“This is incredibly bitter for Salim (Musah), and I feel incredibly sorry for him,” Bremen’s coach Daniel Thioune reacted to the news. “It is also a bitter setback for us as a team, because Salim has developed very well. Our doctors are currently in contact with the medical department of the DFB (Germany Football Federation) about the further steps."

Bremen announced that the 20-year-old will not return before the turn of the new year. The Green and Whites are already dealing with the serious muscle injury to Jens Stage, who will also have to wait until the Rückrunde for his comeback.

Musah also had injury issues last season before making his first team breakthrough in the final couple of months. He scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 2-1 defeat to RB Leipzig in April. Friday’s game was his third appearance at the U20 level for Germany.
