At the top of the shareholders' committee of Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH, a change is due by the end of the year.

The club has confirmed that Werner Wenning will step down from the control body of the Rhinelanders as of 31 December, 2026.

His successor, effective 1 January, 2027, will be Wolfgang Nickl, who has already been a member of the committee since March.

Nickl served as a member of the Board of Management of Leverkusen as Chief Financial Officer from 2018 until the end of May 2026.

"I have experienced Bayer 04 since my childhood in very different times and am grateful to have helped shape the club's development," said Wenning.

“The successes of 2024 were unforgettable for me personally as well—above all because, like so many people in our city, I had waited so long for them.

"With Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes, I have always worked closely and trustfully together. Our open and lively exchange meant a lot to me both professionally and personally.

"With Wolfgang Nickl, an experienced leader is taking over. He is already very familiar with Bayer 04 and the work on the shareholders' committee.

“I wish him and the club all the best from the bottom of my heart,” Wenning concluded upon news of his impending resignation.
