Will he stay or go? For months now, there has been speculation about the future of Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, who has been heavily linked with Real Madrid.

Now, it looks as if there will soon be clarity on the matter, with AS reporting that Xabi Alonso has made his decision and is expected to announce it on Thursday at his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday's Bundesliga clash with Bochum.

According to the Spanish publication, sources close to Xabi Alonso have leaked the information that the 43-year-old wants to stay beyond the summer.

Almost exactly a year ago, Alonso announced that he would remain in charge of Leverkusen for the 2024/25 season.

The former Spain international could still end up at Real Madrid eventually - possibly in 2026, when Carlo Ancelotti's contract as head coach of the Spanish giants expires.
