Confirmed: Augsburg return Dorsch to Heidenheim

German European representatives 1. FC Heidenheim confirmed the purchase of their former player Niklas Dorsch of FC Augsburg on Friday evening.

As had been rumored earlier in the day, 26-year-old German defensive midfielder Niklas Dorsch is headed back to his old stomping grounds. The former German youth international's top tier club FC Augsburg have sold Dorsch to Heidenheim for a reported transfer fee of €3 million. Dorsch left the FCH to play for KAA Gent. He made 68 competitive appearances with Frank Schmidt's East Swabians between 2018 and 2020.

“'Dorschi' came to FCH as a talent from FC Bayern Munich," FCH CEO Holger Sanwald noted in a statement, :Despite his young age at the time, he immediately developed into an absolute top performer in his two years with us and then matured even further at his other stations in Ghent and Augsburg. He has  exceptional footballing qualities and embodies an absolute winning mentality that suits us perfectly.”

“It feels good to be back at the FCH," Dorsch himself remarked, "I had two very successful years here. Even after leaving Heidenheim, I was always in contact with Holger Sanwald and Frank Schmidt. Now the opportunity to return to FCH has arisen at short notice. I didn't have to think twice about it."
