Kicker Report: Fürth plan to exercise purchase option on Ngankam

German footballing magazine Kicker reports that, in a surprise move, relegated SpVgg Greuther Fürth are preparing to pull the €1.5 million purchase option on Hertha striker Jessic Ngankam.

The scorer of two goals in six appearances (Ngankam sat out most of the season injured) may still head back to Berlin via a buy-back option.

It is not often that relegated Bundesliga sides pull expensive purchase options. According to German footballing magazine Kicker, however, that's precisely what SpVgg Greuther Fürth plan to do with Hertha loanee Jessic Ngankam. The 21-year-old will cost the Kleeblätter some €1.5 million.

Kicker reports that the Middle Franconians plan to activate their purchase rights prior to a May 31st deadline. Note that--whilst the loan deal was being negotiated last July--Hertha were reported to have secured a buy-back clause as well.

The planned move may be nothing more than an attempt by SpVgg sporting director Rachid Azzouzi to secure some funds for his club via a technicality and a little bit of brinkmanship. One assumes that Fredi Bobic and the Hertha administrative team wish to keep the player.

If not, Fürth will find themselves on the hook for a sum well outside their budget.
