At least according to former German international Lothar Matthäus who claims that Süle is now Bayern's main centre-back while Boateng and Hummels will have to battle for the spot next to him in the central defense.
"I believe that Boateng has shown his weaknesses in the past months and years, at the World Cup and now in the first game. For me, Süle is the only centre-back certain to start. He is the most stable, he is fast, physically strong and confident," Matthäus said during the Sky Sport TV show 'Wontorra - der o2 Fußball-Talk' and added:
"I believe Süle is certain to play the important games, and then he will have either Boateng or Hummels beside him."
Süle, 22, joined Bayern München from Hoffenheim in 2017. Last season, the German international made 42 appearances for the Bavarians.
Bild has previously reported that Süle is likely to play a key role this season.
Meanwhile, a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain could reportedly still be on the cards for Jerome Boateng.
