Effenberg responds to Hoeneß's Musiala comments amid Bayern contract concerns

Former Bayern Munich captain Stefan Effenberg believes the club’s hierarchy may have concerns over Jamal Musiala’s contract situation following the midfielder’s recent injury problems.

Speaking on SPORT1’s Doppelpass programme, Effenberg suggested Bayern could be reconsidering the financial commitment made to Musiala, given the limited return they have received amid his fitness struggles.

“On the one hand, there’s the illness, and on the other, his injury history. They may be wondering whether it was too much given what they are currently getting in return, or considering the difficult situation they now find themselves in,” Effenberg explained.

The 23-year-old Germany international signed a long-term contract extension with Bayern in February 2025, committing his future to the club until 2030. However, his subsequent injury struggles have limited his availability, with the midfielder having endured a particularly difficult period following a serious ankle injury sustained at the Club World Cup in July 2025.

Effenberg believes there is a clear distinction between Musiala’s situation and that of Harry Kane, whose recent contract extension he considers an entirely straightforward decision for the Bayern hierarchy.

“Everyone would agree that Harry Kane’s new contract was the right decision and entirely understandable. I believe the Bayern hierarchy are more concerned about Jamal Musiala’s contract,” the former midfielder added.

Despite questioning whether Bayern may have second thoughts about the terms of Musiala’s deal, Effenberg was keen to stress that neither the player nor the club should be held responsible for the circumstances.

“Nobody is to blame for the situation, neither the player nor the club,” he concluded.

Musiala remains an important part of Bayern’s long-term plans, but his availability will inevitably be a significant consideration as the German champions look to get the best possible return from their investment in one of the country’s most talented attacking midfielders.
