Germany national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has labeled Marc-André Ter Stegen's injury as “incredibly bitter” news.

The goalkeeper – who left FC Barcelona for Girona to get regular game time – sustained a hamstring injury against Oviedo on Saturday.

“Marc had just returned and was on a really good path; we were very much looking forward to his return to the national team.

"Right now, the only thing that matters is getting healthy, in calm and without pressure. We all stand behind him.

“Now we have to continue to do without him. But for Marc personally, this setback is of course much harder,” said Nagelsmann.

The former Borussia Mönchengladbach shot-stopper was hoping to build up some form and regain his place for Germany's 2026 World Cup.
