Köln's Pedersen returns to the Isle

FC Köln confirmed late yesterday that - after just one year - they had opted to offload Danish left-back Kristian Pedersen.

Injuries precluded Pedersen for making much of an impact with the cathedral city side last year. He featured just six times for Steffen Baumgart's side in the league and made only four starts in 14 appearances across all competitions. The Ringside native was unable to get his name on the scoresheet once.

"Kristian approached us with a clear desire for a change," Köln sporting director Christian Keller noted in a statement, "Especially due to the signing of Dominique Heintz, we were able to meet this wish. There will be no gap in the squad positions of left centre-back and left-back covered by Kristian as a result of his transfer. We thank Kristian for his commitment and good team play during his FC time and wish him all the best for his future."

"I wanted to a stab at playing in the [EFL] Championship again," the player himself added, "I had my best sporting successes there. I would like to build on that now at Swansea City. I am very grateful for my year at FC and will have fond memories of Cologne. I wish my teammates and the whole FC a successful season."
