Schmid on Bremen exit rumours: "I can absolutely imagine staying here"

Local source Deichstube believed SVW require a €7.5million surplus profit this summer to balance the books. Selling is not the plan but if the price is right, it's hard to ignore.

Despite narrowly missing out on European football, Werder Bremen enjoyed another strong season in the Bundesliga.

One man behind that collective effort was Romano Schmid who supplied 5 goals and 5 assists in 32 outings.

With Werder in desperate need of recouping some transfer revenue this summer, one question remains - will Schmid stay or go?

The 25-year-old is valued at around €15million but the player himself feels that a departure is not central to his plans.

"I can absolutely imagine staying here. I like Werder, I love Werder," said the Austrian in an interview with Sky Germany.

“My focus is on nothing else … I've developed further, the club has too, and we as a team had a great season that we can build on," he added.

Bremen's head of football, Peter Niemeyer, backed up his statement saying “it is not our intention to sell them”.
