It's been a bumpy season for Atletico Madrid so far, with the Spanish capital club currently sitting in fourth place in La Liga after a patchy run of form.

In the Champions League, however, Atletico have been as strong as we're used to seeing them, losing just one of their eight games in Europe's top competition this season after eliminating Inter in the round of 16.

Wednesday's opponents, Borussia Dortmund, have been equally inconsistent on the domestic front and are coming off a disappointing 1-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart which saw them drop to fifth in the league.

But as Edin Terzic's side showed in their previous game - an impressive 2-0 win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena - they can be very good when they're at their best.

The two teams last met in the group stage of the 2018/19 campaign, with each side winning a home game.

Statistically, Dortmund have fared well against Spanish opposition in the knockout stages of the tournament, advancing six times and being knocked out three times.

In terms of personnel, Memphis Depay is expected to miss the game for Atletico, while Mario Hermoso is a doubt. Donyell Malen is the only absentee for Borussia Dortmund.
