VfL Wolfsburg are looking at the possibility of extending John Anthony Brooks' contract, which expires next summer.

"We have spoken with the player once briefly and will now speak with his agent," confirmed Wolfsburg managing director for sport Jörg Schmadtke in an interview with Wolfsburger Allgemeine.

"We would like to have that conversation before the winter break to find out how things could go."

Per Wolfsburger Allgemeine, Wolfsburg want to keep Brooks, but only if he's willing to take a pay cut.

If not, the 28-year-old centre-back could depart the club on a free transfer next summer.

Brooks most recently watched Sunday's 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt from the bench, with Sebastiaan Bornauw playing in his place.
