Sport Bild Report: Eintracht contact Dortmund to enquire about Knauff loan

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that Eintracht Frankfurt's search for additional attacking assistance yields a target within the Bundesliga.

Germany's Sport Bild cites its own internal sources to claim that SGE sporting director Markus Krösche has enquired about the possibility of obtaining Dortmund's Ansgar Knauff on a short-term loan this winter. As of yet there is no more concrete information of the status of a possible deal, which would make sense from the perspective of both sides.

The 19-year-old Knauff's overall development as a player doesn't appear to match up with the needs of his current club. Knauff has recently earned a promotion in Germany's national team hierarchy with a call-up to the U21s. The youngster has made just one relevant relief appearance in the league this year. Otherwise, Rose has found no use for Knauff other than that of a time-killing late sub.

Frankfurt, meanwhile, continue to struggle offensively in the league. In the striking corps, newcomers Sam Lammers and Rafael Santos Borré have just on-goal apiece in league play. Returning Schalke loanee Gonçalo Paciencia has converted a penalty. Jens Petter Hauge and Filip Kostic have chipped in a pair of goals from midfield positions.

Under interim trainer Edin Terzic, Knauff made much more impactful performances last spring. Eintracht Frankfurt's search for an extra striker during this winter's transfer window will almost certainly take the form of a loan. The club seems set on acquiring Randal Kolo Muani in the offseason, but contractual obligations mean that this deal will have to wait.
