Bayern München bounced back from their recent 5-0 DFB-Pokal defeat to Gladbach as they thumped Union Berlin 5-2 in the German capital on Saturday.

Thomas Müller, who provided three assists before getting on the scoresheet himself, was delighted that Bayern managed to show a proper reaction to their embarrassing defeat.

"We wanted to and had to show a reaction on the pitch," Müller said in a post-match interview and continued:

"You never know what you're going to end up with in terms of result here in this stadium, against this tight-knit team. It was important that we got stuck into duels, took on responsibility and wanted the ball so we could develop that enjoyment of playing. We were dominant in the first half hour and got the goals.

"We were very happy with that. Then we saw a typical Union side, never giving up and fighting back. They got it back to 3-1 before the break. We weren't as calm in our play after the break, but we found the right answers with the goals. We won and in the end played a convincing game."

The win ensured that Bayern stayed one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga table.
