Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc and head coach Marco Rose have challenged Donyell Malen to improve in a number of areas.

With just a goal and two assists to his name in 17 appearances so far, the 22-year-old has struggled to live up to the expectations following his €30 million move from PSV ahead of this season.

And speaking to Kicker, Zorc doesn't shy away from the fact that he's expecting more from the Dutch international.

"'Donny' is not yet showing what we had hoped for. He isn't enough of a goal threat and offers too little. We have to work on that with him," said Zorc.

Head coach Marco Rose said:

"For 'Donny', it's about getting used to the Bundesliga, to the pace, to the physicality.

"But he also has to work on his mindset. It's important that he spends a lot of energy against the ball, so he can get into other situations."

Malen, he added, needs to be convinced "that this is important for him."
