In less than a year, 18-year-old Joe Scally has gone from playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach's reserves to being an important part of the first team – and a U.S. international.

The full-back recently earned his first call-up for his country and could potentially make his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Mexico on Saturday.

Gladbach coach Adi Hütter is naturally pleased that the youngster's achievements have been registered in his home country.

"A year ago, no one knew him. Now he fils in for Stefan Lainer quite excellently, and you can let him play on the right as well as on the left," Hütter told Kicker.

Scally has played a lot recently, but Hütter isn't worried that the youngster will be affected by tiredness.

"When you're a young player, and you're going through the things he is, it can only be an extra motivation and give you confidence," said the Gladbach coach.
