Mainz no longer interested in signing Danny da Costa

Mainz boss Christian Heidel has played down rumors that Danny da Costa could return to MEWA Arena in January.
Danny da Costa played an important role for Mainz in the second half of last season, featuring in nearly every game after his loan switch from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Therefore, it made sense that Mainz wanted to keep the right-back beyond the summer, but he ended up returning to Frankfurt, with 'Die Nullfünfer' bringing in Silvan Widmer in his place.

With da Costa now struggling for playing time at Frankfurt, the 28-year-old has been linked with a move back to MEWA Arena, but Mainz are apparently no longer interested.

"We would have liked to keep him, but the situation changed in the summer," Mainz sporting director Chirsitan Heidel told club radio 05er.fm.

"We have reoriented ourselves. We can't just get a player now because he's a super guy when the position is filled already. That's why the question doesn't arise now."
