Dortmund release first update on Brandt's condition

Dortmund sounded a very tentative "all clear" on twitter on Saturday evening when providing an update on the status of Julian Brandt.

The horrific head collision between Dortmund's Julian Brandt and Dayot Upamecano in the 65th minute of Saturday evening's "Topspiel" left everyone holding their breath for four long minutes.

The German national team attacker appeared to lose consciousness briefly and immediately began to bleed from a nasty head gash. All players on the pitch, including a still woozy Upamecano, immediately signaled for the medical staff.

After Brandt left the field on a stretcher, he was taken to a local hospital. The BVB released a statement on Saturday evening saying that the 25-year-old was "doing well under the circumstances".

Speaking to German broadcaster Sky after the match, Dortmund head-coach Marco Rose said that he had received a photo of Brandt flashing a thumbs-up on his phone.

The trainer, ejected from the match controversially, shook off his frustration to say that this piece of news was "practically the most important thing for me today."
