Greuther Fürth are in talks to sign Loris Karius from Liverpool, according to Nürnberger Nachrichten.

The bottom-placed Bundesliga side want to bring in a new goalkeeper to compete with Sascha Burchert after Marius Funk suffered a serious knee injury earlier this month.

Karius appears to be a candidate, but the 28-year-old's wages could prove a stumbling block unless he accepts a pay cut.

Asked about Karius, whose contract expires in the summer, Greuther Fürth managing director for sport Rachid Azzouzi said:

"We don't set ourselves any limits when it comes to the goalkeeper position."

"In general, we plan far-sightedly at Fürth. But sometimes you have to look at the current situation. We could bring someone in for six months."

Karius hasn't made a single appearance for Liverpool this season. He spent last season on loan at Union Berlin, featuring five times.
